Report to: Commander Evelyn Rieko, XO USS Durant
From: Marley Knott (Cmdr), MIST Senior / SIGINT Specialist
Stardate 200113

TOP SECRET FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
==========================

Sir. I write to inform you of certain facts that have come to light during an investigation following the discovery of a medical ensign locked in a closet at Academy Campus.

Timeline:
While at Academy, Rear Admiral Poison Toocool posted a Captain's Log on stardate 191007, time index 0449.

Toocool departed Pinastri on stardate 191007, time index 0500.

Encrypted communique from Toocool to USS Taylorholic Durant transmitted on stardate 191008, time index 0457.

Toocool arrived Durant on stardate 191008, time index 1800 hours.

Toocool retired to Durant Sick Bay on stardate 191013, time index 1154, upon approach of a Romulan Warbird.

Items:
Despite top level secrecy about her true nature, known only to the Joint Chiefs, and the Chief Medical Officer aboard Durant, as well as strict orders for no invasive medical procedures, Admiral Toocool, in human form, was sedated in Sick Bay, subjected to the use of a neural stimulator, and subsequently treated with nanites which were alleged to destroy cells affected by the virus. This treatment was given by one who claimed to be a new graduate of Starfleet Academy, Ensign Caitlin Colville.

The Admiral was subsequently delivered to space station Alpha Therapévo for observation and return to health.

Investigations have now established the following facts:
- Admiral Toocool was given a clean bill of health by the Surgeon General before leaving Pinastri.

- Fleet Captain Malrock Marritza, Durant CMO, long time friend and personal doctor to the Admiral (currently seconded to HQ), was never contacted with regard to Toocool's sudden illness.

- the Medical Ensign aboard the Durant would never have had access to Toocool's medical history. She would have been bound to care for the Admiral by natural methods only. No drugs or invasive procedures would have been permitted. The fact she knew the Admiral's true nature is suspicious as noone of her rank and clearance would be permitted to access those files. The fact she also discussed Toocool's true nature with the XO is a serious breach of standing orders.

- on 191211, the real Ensign Caitlin Colville was found hidden in a rarely used cupboard at Starfleet Academy. She had been drugged. She was bound and gagged, and close to death.

- subsequent investigations focussed on the Academy and Pinastri but no further leads have been found.

These facts lead to the following questions:
- how is it possible the Admiral contracted a virus that would make her ill? Given her true nature, it's more likely she ingested some kind of drug, something powerful enough to weaken her and force her to seek treatment;

- was Admiral Toocool drugged or infected for the purpose of removing her from command and assisting the enemy to capture the Flagship of the Fleet?

- was the subsequent 'treatment' an attempt to obtain information from her? Or, was it used to gain control of a respected high ranking officer of UF Starfleet?

- where are the nanites now?

Observations:
The false Colville is believed to have disembarked at Space Station Alpha Therapévo, with the Admiral. Security there has reported they only have a record of her arrival, despite an alleged thorough search of records and the facility, she has not been found. They currently claim to be going through records of ships and shuttles leaving the facility since the Admiral arrived. However, the replies to our questions have been intermittent at best. We suspect that there may be someone else on the inside working to scuttle our investigation.

Recommendation:
that the Durant proceed to Alpha Therapévo, obtain more information from Station security, pick up the Admiral, and search for the false Colville.

**At present time, there is a possibility the Admiral may be compromised and working for the enemy.**

Given the sensitive nature of this report, it has been designated TOP SECRET

RP NARRATIVE
===========

Evelyn Rieko was feeling a bit more relaxed after her brief visit home to spend a couple of days with her mother. Her brother and sister-in-law had come over to visit also, and it had been great fun. She laughed a lot, cried a little and found solace in her mother's arms. Her mother was like a balm to her. Evelyn felt she had gone home to be soothed and calmed, her heart was healing, and she felt recharged now and ready for duty. Now she was back on the bridge and starting a Top Secret mission. She had briefed the crew on some of the particulars and would give more information as needed. She looked around the bridge. "We are approaching Space Station Alpha Therapevo. As you all know we will investigate the disappearance of a possible Romulan agent, and pick up Rear Admiral Toocool. Reports everyone, and Cadet Elton, what is our ETA?"

Rain Elton finishes her diagnostics on the helm console. This being her first time actually piloting the ship and not on the simulator in the Holodeck she runs her eyes over it again making sure everything is showing in the proper parameters. Mentally she is ready and although trying to impress the Commander and is almost on edge. Hearing the Commander's request, she turns, "Sir, at warp six we can be at Station Alpha Therapevo in approximately 3 hours 58 minutes."

Nems Darkstar: Rubbing his eyes looking at the stardate and time, is it really time to report back on duty? Quickly gets dressed and heads down to the bridge wishing he was home visiting his husband and children. He had such a great time it was well needed and well deserved. Looks at the Commander, "Sir, Security is going through the LCARS to find out what vessels are docked there and what they are equipped with so that we have better knowledge on the situation Sir."

Hal Jordan sat at the Comms console, which was reconfigured for Intel purposes. His brain felt scrambled as he tried to determine a course of action. Rear Admiral Toocool had been infected with some sort of disease that had immobilized her during the (fairly) recent Romulan incursion and battles. The conjecture was that this had been accomplished by a Romulan agent aboard Durant, but how? And what was the specific disease, and had it compromised Toocool in some way? There were too many questions and not enough information. Jordan searched through information in the transporter logs. It was suspected that a Romulan agent had come aboard Durant at some time and conducted exams and treatment in Sickbay without the knowledge of the crew. Transporter records might have shown the presence of Romulan DNA, but they were not designed for that sort of fine detail security screening. He would keep looking, but the task seemed to be futile. "Sir, Engineering reports all systems running at full capability and no reportable anomalous behavior from any hardware or software."

Rieko looks to helm, "Then, Cadet, use Warp 9, we want to arrive as soon as possible...revised ETA please. and scan for spatial anomalies and asteroids. Tactical, scan for any ships, probes, Commodore Jordan, research data on this space station, anything strange or unusual?"

Elton taps a few keys to bring up status displays to confirm Hal's report, that systems are running perfectly and nods ever so slightly to herself that the ship is a fine example of Federation technology. Hearing the Commander's request, she acknowledges the command by quickly tapping a few keys, "At warp 9 our ETA will be approximately 10 minutes 34 seconds." Tapping some more she pulls up charts for en route and has the computer start searching for issues in the flight path.

Darkstar: hearing the Commander's command, "Yes Sir, right away." Looking down at his console trying to scan for the most accurate ships that may come up on radar. Looks deeper into the scans, not sure what he is seeing, not seeing probes come up on scans. Thinking to himself there has to be something that will come up on the scans, tries to run more in depth scans to find better results.

Jordan pulled out his special tricorder, disguised to look like a PADD. He could scan silently while aboard the space station, making it look like he was simply taking notes. He pulled up the available information about their destination. "Space Station Alpha Therapevo is said to be a refueling and repair station serving this part of the Delta Quadrant. Alpha Therapevo is the Federation designation - the station's name in the Romulan language is a tongue twister containing too many apostrophes. Starfleet Intelligence suspects that the station is also an observation post, scanning to the limit of Romulan sensors, but we have no solid evidence of that. Maybe at this close proximity, we can find out more."

Rieko As they approach the space station she looks to the Helm, "Cadet Elton, slow to one quarter impulse, and open a hailing frequency. =^= This is Commander Evelyn Rieko of the Taylorholic Durant. Request permission to board the Space Station. =^= Looks to Hal, "Good work, Commodore."

Elton slows the ship and runs over docking procedures in her head as the viewscreen shows the Station looming in front of us. "One Quarter impulse, Commander"

Darkstar: "Commander Sir, scans are showing no probes. Scans are only picking up four ships that I am able to detect at this time, Sir."

Lyudmila: Walking onto the command deck of the station, Lyudmila looks around as she straightens her tunic and pauses for a moment before taking her position at the centre console, tapping the screen to sign in and look up the latest status reports. Interrupted by the duty officer with a message saying a vessel identified as a Starfleet warship had been spotted on approach some 4 hours out on a somewhat surprisingly wobbly course though but had changed speed suddenly and somehow made it to the station and was hailing us. Lyudmila questions if there have been any prior communications with Starfleet regarding a visit, but the shake of heads confirms there was not. She sighs "OK all be alert please, ready defences just in case. but quietly and discreetly please? What is it they're saying? It's OK, delay response till we discuss, unexpected arrivals are not our emergency unless they look aggressive, let them wait until we've assessed the threat level to the station."

Jordan looked at the information displayed on the console and shook his head, reconfiguring the data inquiry. "Sir, I regret to report an error with my analysis. I requested information on space station Alpha Therapevo, but the console reported information for space station Alpha Sarajevo. It may be because I am a little hoarse today and the computer did not recognize my voice. I am retrieving the correct information now and will have it for you shortly."

Rieko Looks to Hal, "Good Commodore, I was surprised when you said Romulan space station. Although this station is suspected of being connected to Romulans and may be harboring Romulans spies, but Rear Admiral Toocool was brought here to heal from her illness. This is an UFS station, suspected of traitorous link to Romulus." She looks to Helm. "Hmm, no response. Hail them again, Cadet. They are arousing my suspicions even more."

Elton slows the ship to thruster speeds as we come nearer the station and runs over docking procedures in her head as the viewscreen shows the Station looming in front of us. "Aye Commander," *toggles comms* =^= Space Station Alpha Therapevo, this is the USS Taylorholic Durant requesting docking permissions. Do you copy? =^= Almost unconsciously, her left hand goes to a strand of hair as she sort of tugs on it slightly while continuing to monitor her station, awaiting confirmation.

Lyudmila: Hearing the report of the communication from the Starfleet vessel requesting to board the station, Mila signals to the officer to route the channel to her headset. Bearing an expression she can afford before being visible to the caller, one which is less welcoming than her voice as she greets the outsiders =^= Hello, I am Sub Commander Lyudmila and head of security aboard the Alpha Therapevo station ... that's THERAPEVO ... I just spell that out for you to maybe save us both some time because we've had a few unexpected visits from people who for some bewildering reason were looking for Alpha Sarajevo, anyway, this is Alpha Therapevo and may I bid you and your crew welcome to the station and ask how we may be of service to you? =^=

Jordan read through the correct Intel information and shook his head. "Sir, the correct information regarding the station is that it's an independently owned property, but stationed way out here on the periphery of our domain, there are some questions about its security. It is staffed by civilians, and there have been several staffing changes in the past few years. Our Intelligence records on the current staff are rather sketchy, and one entry in the record here speculates that the station is under the control of the Romulan Star Empire, or what's left of it. So instead of a station owned and operated by Romulans, we have a station owned by civilians and possibly controlled by Romulans. I suggest that we take security precautions onboard, and be cautious about what information we give them if we transport over to the station."

Rieko looks to the Intel Officer, "Yes Commodore Jordan, we will take major security precautions when we board the space station." She hears the response from the station and looks to the screen, but no visual, only audio. =^=Sub Commander Lyudmila, we request clearance to board your station. As you know, our Rear Admiral Poison Toocool is in your medical facility and we are here to retrieve her as well as interview you as head of security on the situation the day of her arrival. We would also like to interview Ensign Caitlin Colville...thank you...we are ready to board. =^= Looks to Commodore Jordan, "Commodore, research any data you can find on this Sub Commander Lyudmila, and the staff on this space station."

Elton quirks an eyebrow at the brusque manner of the communications coming from the station but doesn't let that deter her responsibility to pilot flawlessly. Anticipating acceptance to dock she starts maneuvering the ship towards the station and passes control over to the lock on signal, but also ready to abort should the need arise.

Darkstar: "Commander Sir, because we do not know what we are walking into with this ship, as Vice Chief of Security, I request that we go into yellow alert for precautions Sir."

Lyudmila looks quickly around the control deck, indicating she will take the query before responding directly and issuing the order not to grant permission to dock and to withhold the station docking facilities =^= I'm sorry but that is not possible at the moment. The station is in lock-down due to a previous incident which I am not at liberty to discuss, but no-one is permitted to come down or leave, other than my security staff that is, so we cannot, I'm afraid, grant your request to come down to the station at this time. Is there anything else we may assist you with Durant? =^=

Jordan looked through the transporter records again. The transporter trace logs were available, but only two logs were maintained for each person. Durant did not have enough computer memory to store transporter traces going back months or years. The traces contained information going down to the molecular level, but it took a good bit of examination to determine the DNA components in a person's blood. He suddenly sat bolt upright in his chair. "Commander - blood may be the key to this mystery. Scanning and analyzing for DNA is somewhat difficult and time consuming, but no matter what cosmetic surgery a life form might have, one thing they can't change is the blood that flows through their veins. Romulans have copper-based blood, the same as Vulcans do, so even if a life form looks human, copper based blood will tell us that it's not. I have very little information about station personnel other than their names and the stardates when they were employed."

Rieko felt totally annoyed with this Lyudmila, she was hiding something, Evelyn was sure of it... she could hear it in Lyudmila's deceptive sounding and quite annoying voice. There were too many unanswered questions about what happened to the Rear Admiral, and the spy that drugged her or infected her, and now more questions. This security chief was being ridiculous. In her sweetest voice she said: =^= Sub Commander, surely you do not expect us to leave without our Rear Admiral? Whatever your problems are on your station, you should be able to accommodate us. I demand you send us the clinical notes from your doctor, and await permission to see her and transport her back to the Durant. =^= She looks to Hal, "Thank you, Commodore." Looks to Helm, "We will see what's next, Cadet Elton."

Elton: Hearing her XO speak, she tries to anticipate her orders and frowns ever so slightly in a way that you'd need to be a Vulcan yourself to even notice it as the ship is denied docking procedures, and so she immediately repositions the ship with thrusters and plots a station keeping orbit. She tugs a little at her hair and wonders at the attitudes of other species and why they all can't all be Vulcan.

Darkstar listens carefully to this Lyudmila something is not right by her tone of voice. Looks down on his console and moves this ship into Yellow Alert. His main job is to protect all on this ship and that Chief of Security is hiding something and something smells fishy.

Lyudmila does her best to disguise her irritation with the persistence and arrogance of these outsiders to reject her clearly stated position. =^= My dear friends, I am sorry, but we cannot make an exception. I am also deeply sorry but we had no notice that you were coming. We spotted you on long range scans 4 hours out, then you accelerated to what must have been Warp 9? and presented yourself on our doorstep as a surprise demanding to board the station? I want to be helpful, we do a lot of business with Starfleet, but we are not here to jump when you say Boo! Besides that, I'm not totally sure why you are here? You are welcome of course, but I'm not quite seeing the purpose of spending your time and resources here as opposed to doing the many other valuable things a ship of this importance could otherwise be doing? The best I can offer if you really need to have a face to face meeting is that we come to you? Otherwise you are free to remain in orbit as long as you wish. Oh! and yes regarding your dear Admiral! She is a lovely person, isn't she? Yes, she was here for a while as she recovered from her 'illness' we took great care of her during her stay. She isn't here anymore though, so you won't be able to pick her up from here. " =^=

Jordan scans the station carefully. "Sir, I have not located Rear Admiral Toocool, or anything that looks like her life signs. I am scanning other life forms on the station, but the scans are strangely inconclusive. Fuzzy, for want of a better word. It's as though each life form is wearing a device designed to mask its life signs."

Rieko: "What!" Did she hear that irritating, and annoying voice say the Admiral is not there!? She turned to Tactical, "Lieutenant Nems, Red alert! Scan the station's weapons' system and shields and report on their ability to withstand full force blast from the Durant, although this is more of a bluff...for now". Looks to Commodore Jordan, "Yes Commodore, that is a very good question, why are they lying about the Admiral being there? We will get to the bottom of this. We will find the answers we came for and we will find Admiral Toocool. Whatever it takes!"
