History

Construction of the shipyards began almost as soon as the colony fleet arrived from the Alpha Quadrant and was completed in mid-2381. Originally located at the outer reaches of the Pinastri System just beyond the Humboldt Belt sitting in geo-synchronous orbit with Pinastri VIII, Cascadia Shipyards were relocated to Geo-Synchronous orbit of Pinastri Headquarters on Pinastri Prime on Stardate 230514, and subsequently placed under the control of Pinastri Headquarters.

The centerpiece of the shipyards is the Alexandria-class Cascadia Station. It is the space-borne element and headquarters of the UFS Corps of Engineers, serving to provide engineering support to all Federation fleets engaged in Delta Quadrant operations. It is also home to the ASDB and UFS shipbuilding program where some of Starfleet’s finest designers and engineers are based.

Construction and Initial Assignment

Cascadia was assembled on-site from segments pre-constructed and towed from Federation space. The class itself is comprised of five radial rings of varying size, connected by a central shaft - a total of 98 accessible decks. The station itself boasts drydocks capable of simultaneous repair and refurbishment of up to eight medium-sized spacecraft. Larger vessels can utilize any of the seven available free-floating drydocks berthed nearby.

During its assembly and initial years of operation, the shipyards were positioned in orbit of Pinastri V; however with the increase in freighter and mining traffic to and from the Humboldt Belt and the outer planet’s moons, they were moved into orbit of Pinastri VIII to allow for a better flow of traffic and to be closer to established trading routes. With the relocation of SS Tranquility, Cascadia Shipyards were once again relocated to orbit of Pinastri IV to serve as the primary space hub for Pinastri Colony.

Other than shipbuilding, much of the work carried out at the shipyards is routine inspection and servicing, however the station is also involved in installing, developing, and testing newly developed technology from both Alexandria and Athena stations such as new forms of propulsion or offensive/defensive technology.

Roleplay Premise

Cascadia, is a working station but also serves as port of call to the Pinastri System and is a valuable base of operations, defensive screen, and repair facility. The space in the shipyards immediate vicinity is a whir of activity with the constant movement of workbees, transport vessels, tugs and mining ships. Mining operations for the whole of the Pinastri system, whether they are being conducted within the Humboldt belt or on some of the planets outlying moons, are coordinated from Cascadia Station.

A strong security presence at the shipyards is also responsible for monitoring and policing on the established shipping routes in and out of the system and local space. Due to the nature of its operations and its strategic importance to UFS it is a prime target in times of conflict.
