General
The UFS Greeter Program is attached under the Office of Public Relations and Marketing. Greeters and Tour Guides have a very important role within the UFS. They are the front line of our organization, the very first individuals that visitors will see once they enter our region. It's often said that first impressions can go a long way, and in the role as a Greeter and Tour Guide, it's up to them to help create a positive first impression for anyone who visits the region!
Greeters can make a great first impression by:
- Being present in the Welcome Center
- Wearing the proper duty uniform
- Acting in a professional manner
- Having an upbeat, positive, and friendly demeanor
- Greeting visitors and members warmly
- Engaging visitors in a conversation
- Providing information about the UFS
- Providing tours of the region
- Assisting those who wish to apply
EVERYONE is Welcome to Volunteer for the Program. By Doing so it goes towards Promotions & Awards and at the End of the Month the Award, "Greeter of the Month" Is handed out to the Greeter who has stood out the Most and is committed with their voluntary work.

Greeter FAQs
WILL GREETERS AND TOUR GUIDES HAVE THEIR OWN GREETER GROUP?
No, there will not be a separate group. The number of greeters that we have is very small, and at this point it would only create another group that would likely not have any use. We will keep track of how often you serve as a greeter or tour guide when you fill out this form: http://tinyurl.com/UFSGreeterLog . If we need to contact you, then we will do so either face to face, via IMs, or through the forums.
DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO A SCHEDULE?
Ideally, we would like to have all volunteers serve as a greeter at least 3-4 times a week - although once a week at extreme minimum will also be acceptable if you have a demanding real life schedule. You can sign up for specific hours, or just work during any open hours when you find them on the schedule. If you do sign up for a specific time on the schedule, that time is yours every single week.
WHERE CAN I SEE THE SCHEDULE, AND HOW CAN I SIGN UP?
The schedule is available at http://tinyurl.com/UFSGreeterSchedule, and to have your name added for specific times contact Jean Hema or Zania Turner. You can sign up for blocks of time, and are not limited to just one 30 minute timeslot.
WHY ARE THERE TWO GREETER COLUMNS ON EACH DAY OF THE SCHEDULE?
The Welcome Center is moving to a new location. Due to the new design, since it's much further away from all areas and has access to the surface by transporter only, it'll become that much more essential to have one person remain in the Welcome Center while the other provides the tour.
DO GREETERS ONLY GIVE TOURS ONCE A VISITOR HAS APPLIED FOR MEMBERSHIP?
Anyone can have a tour, and honestly the more the better! The visitor does not have to apply, and could simply be here to find out more information or may be a reporter/blogger wishing to write up a review on our region. For some, they may be more inclined to join after the tour is finished!
WILL GREETERS BE ABLE TO REZ TOUR LOCATIONS SUCH AS ACADEMY CLASSROOMS?
Many rezzers are set for either the main UFS group or UFS Land Management group. There are specific areas, however, which are set to other groups. This includes many of the decks of Tranquility Station, Pathfinder Research Facility, Alexandria Station, and Academy Classrooms. If you wish to include these areas within the tour and you personally do not have access, please use group chat to request an instructor or member of those crews to come and rez those areas for the tour. They could even join you and assist in the tour for those respective areas!
WHAT IF A VISITOR WANTS TO BE A RECRUIT? CAN GREETERS SHOW AND REZ THE MARINE ACADEMY CLASSROOMS?
Absolutely! As previously mentioned, if you personally do not have access, please use the group chat to request a Marine to come and rez the area for a tour.
IF NECESSARY, WILL GREETERS BE ABLE TO EJECT GRIEFERS FROM THE SIM?
No. This is strictly a power granted to a trusted few by the members of Command. There have been instances in the past where the ability to eject/ban or even return items has been abused, hence why it's limited to a very select group of people. A list of those who have the ability to return items, eject/ban and restart the region will be provided to you in your Greeter Pack.
IF THE WELCOME CENTER BECOMES CROWDED WITH PEOPLE HANGING OUT, DO GREETERS HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO ASK THEM TO CLEAR THE AREA?
No. The Welcome Center is supposed to be 'welcoming,' so no one should be shuffled along to another spot. If there is a disruption or inappropriate acts, ONLY then you have the authority to ask those causing the disruption to move on. When you do so, remember to be polite, and start by IMing the offenders. If you've IMed them 3 times and they fail to respond, or if the visitor is griefing the area, then you can make the same request in public chat. If they fail to respond or comply, then you can contact a member of the Land Adminstration group who can eject/ban.
DO GREETERS CONCENTRATE OUR SERVICES IN THE WELCOME CENTER ALONE, OR DO WE HAVE TO GREET VISITORS THAT APPEAR IN THE VENDING AREA AS WELL?
The Welcome Center in 001 is the main place for greeting, and serves as the primary landing/TP point. The vendors lay just beyond the TP point, and visitors must pass by your greeting station and proceed through the vendors in order to access the rest of the region. Concentrating on the greeting station alone should be sufficent.
CAN GREETERS WAIT A FEW SECONDS BEFORE WE GREET, JUST IN CASE VISITORS BEAM AWAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER ARRIVING?
You can take the initiative and use your best judgement.
ARE CADETS AND RECRUITS TO BE INCLUDED IN REPORT NUMBERS, LIKE UFS STAFF?
Yes. By doing so, it gives us a clear indication of not only traffic to the region, but also how well the greeter program is working.
CAN GREETERS ASK IN GROUP CHAT FOR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS, POSED BY VISITORS, IF WE DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER OURSELVES?
Absolutely! Teamwork is vitally important in any area of the UFS. For your role as a greeter, it is essential to give out the correct information, so there is no harm in asking for help if there are things you are unsure of.
WILL GREETERS NEED TO CHANGE THEIR TITLERS?
You can change your titler to show "Greeter On Duty," but it is not a requirement.
IF THERE ARE TWO GREETERS ON DUTY AT THE SAME TIME, SHOULD ONE STAY IN THE WELCOME CENTER AND GREET PEOPLE WHILE THE OTHER DOES THE TOURS?
Just like with any area of the UFS, teamwork is vitally important. Who does tours and who stays in the welcome center, or if you two switch off at any point, is something between the two of you to work out.
CAN THE DESK AND TRANSPORTER IN THE WELCOME CENTER BE THE MAIN GREETING AREA, SINCE IT'S EASIER TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE AREA FROM THAT SPOT?
The landing point for the region is set for the transporters, so this is already set as the main geeting area.
CAN THE DESK AND ITS TYPING ANIMATION POSE BALL BE FOR GREETERS ONLY, AND NO ONE ELSE IS ALLOWED BEHIND THE DESK?
Anyone in the UFS is welcome to help greet visitors to the region, even if they aren't officially part of the greeter program. By keeping the ball open to everyone to use, it can help the roleplay experience for non-greeters, and it could even encourage them to become an official volunteer for the greeter program!
WILL TOURS GIVEN WHEN NOT ON GREETER DUTY COUNT FOR REPORTS?
Yes! Every volunteer aspect of UFS will be recorded, and will ultimately count toward any promotions and awards you may earn. Remembr to fill out all times you serve as a greeter or tour guide at http://tinyurl.com/UFSGreeterLog so your time will count toward your promotions and awards.
CAN ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT THAT AUTOMATIC THING THAT GIVES YOU A DIALOG BOX AND WANTS YOU TO SELECT ONE OF SEVERAL OPTIONS, INCLUIDNG JOINING THE GROUP, GETTING MORE INFORMATION, ETC?
At this point, no. That was put in place because we are short on Greeters. Now, it does not serve as an excuse for you NOT to carry out your greeter shifts at the Welcome Center. If we can get a lot more greeters to cover all times, then there is a chance that the item will be removed - but we won't be able to do that without your help!
