Introduction

Welcome to the UFS Operations Branch. It is our hope that the information provided here will help inspire you to become a part of the Operations Branch. The operations department is responsible for keeping ship systems functioning properly, rerouting power, bypassing relays, and doing whatever else is necessary to keep the ship operating at peak efficiency.

Additionally, Operations is responsible for several key functions including Helm/Navigation, Transporter Room and Cargo Bay, Communications, Life Support, Ship Maintenance, and Supply.

They wear the Yellow uniform color because they may be called upon to serve alongside Engineering in the performance of their duties.

Office Staff

Branch Commander

The Branch Commanders of UFS are leaders in the immersive experience offered by United Federation Starfleet. They do this by offering their knowledge and passion of the aspects of their branch to other members in the form of Role Play, Activities and Education.

Role Play can vary from something as simple as in character discussion on the intricacies of Transporters, to reports on ship supplies needed and power distribution across a ship or station. Fun Activities is such a huge catch all it defies solid definition but ideas can range from things like, Keeping up to date and sharing interesting news stories and development of real life technology, hosting some get togethers to chat on particular things seen in an episode of Star Trek, the list is endless. They also work with UF Starfleet Academy to assist in the development and maintenance of the content in the colleges.

The Branch Commanders are also the primary representative of the branch to UFS Command, advising them on matters of the branch and the members in it by maintaining communication with both.

Branch Commanders are expected to create branch-specific role play storylines, as well as fun activities, and set a proper atmosphere for their branch. An example of a roleplay would be running diagnostics on the transporters, flight control, or even a crash cause in piloting a Starship. Fun Activities can include game nights, getting to know you sessions or branch brainstorming on new procedures. All of this can be done by keeping up to date on the Forums, Social Media and even Discord,

Vice Branch Commander

The Vice Branch Commander is responsible for assisting the Branch Commander with the day to day organization and running of the branch. Often a supportive role the Vice Branch Commander will mimic the Branch Commander in their absence and work alongside them to achieve goals and objectives.

Positions in UF Starfleet Operations

As a member of operations, we've comprised a list of job positions related to the operations post. In general terms, operations are broken down into these categories.

Bridge Stations:

Communications

A Communications Officer is responsible for the delivery and transmission of all incoming and outgoing communications aboard ship or station. Many officers in this field have a strong degree of skill in encrypting or decrypting a message and are often called on away missions.

Helm/Navigation

A Helm Officer is responsible for the flying of the ship. In an emergency situation, they are aware of various emergency flight patterns. Helm Officers do exist on stations but to a lower capacity than a ship.

Power Distribution Management

An Operations Officer in this capacity is responsible for ensuring main power and auxiliary power systems are balanced throughout systems onboard a station or ship. In an emergency situation, an operations officer's assignment is to divert any non-essential power to areas of the ship that power is most needed. Serves as a back-up to Engineering on the Bridge.

Ship Stations:

Inventory and Logistics

An Operations Officer in this capacity is responsible for the management of resources a ship or station uses. Other departments often report to this department to request, order and submit for these resources. They also report periodically to submit lists of resources currently in possession in the event that they are needed elsewhere. They are also responsible for maintenance and repair operations and assisting Engineering in the development and implementation of repairs and upgrades. Role play could include Inventory Management, Maintenance Officers/ Specialists, Supply/Logistics Officers/Specialists, Ship's Services Officers/Specialists.

Computer Systems

An Operations Officer in this capacity is responsible for the full functionality of data passing through all systems onboard a station or ship. Similar to an engineer, they can be assigned to repair or diagnose the loss or mismanagement of data. They may also be responsible for data encryption and storage/retrieval. Role play positions can include: Main Computer Maintenance, Data Encryption Specialist, Records Officers/Specialists

Transporter Operations

An Operations Officer in this capacity runs the day to day operation of a ship or station's transport systems. They provide basic maintenance to this system when needed and submit tickets to engineering for complete repairs.
