History and Politics
Almost nothing is known about the Pax Megellanic as they appeared to have evolved far beyond the use for their physical bodies. In their "celestial" energy form, the Pax Magellanic are extreamly beautiful wisps of white light. There are many stories of the Pax Magellanic from the fables of the Pax race in the Delta Quadrant who have revered them as "Gods" for centuries.
First contact by the U.S.S. Republic during a visit to the Pax homeworld in the Delta Quadrant in 2387 proved the existence of these beings to be much more then just mythological. The Pax Magellanic were able to enter this galaxy through the use of a special extra-dimensional transportation technology called a "Nova Drive" which would allow the Pax to contact their Gods.
The U.S.S. Republic was pulled in the portal created in space by the drive and transported to the Magellanic Cloud Galaxy (near the M-33 (Triangulum Galaxy)). The Republic briefly explored this region of space, finding evidence of advanced civilisations on some worlds but no signs of actual life. After a brief search of the surrounding systems, the Pax Magellanic finally appeared to the crew of the Republic in a human form so that they could communicate.
However after this, the crew of the Republic began to experience strange hallucinations which turned out to be real after one of the crew was killed by one. The Pax Megellanic explained that they had the power to turn pure thought into reality however the method in which this is achieved is unknown. The Pax Magellanic revealed that this was not the first human starship they had encountered by another had come. In 2364, the U.S.S. Enterprise-D had been mistakenly hurled into the Triangulum Galaxy by mistake and had began to experience the same kind of strange hallucinations.
However the darker impulses of the Pax Magellanic were revealed when it was discovered while investigating a ruined civilisation that this civilisation had also once revered the Pax Magellanic as Gods and had built a huge machine in their honor with the intentions of converting their "physical shells into the immortal" as the Pax Magellanic had shown them, providing them with detailed instructions. This machine in reality converted the entire planets populace into neural energy which had been used to sustain the Pax Magellanic and gain new abilities (in this case, they gained the power to manipulate energy at the sub-atomic level from this race).
When their dark intentions were realised, the Pax Magellanic attacked the Republic, doing massive damage with their unusual weapons and unaffected by the Republic's weaponry. Their weapons literally tearing the Republic's hull causing it lose molecular cohesion in an attempt to convert the crew into the neural energy that they needed.
The Republic was able to return to their own Galaxy in the Pax System and instructed the Pax to close the portal which the Pax refused to do saying that their "gods" were emerging to grant them eternal life. The Republic had no choice but to leave the system and allow the Pax to be converted and absorbed by the Pax Magellanic with the additional functions of the Nova Drive. This made the crew realise that this was nothing more then a Pax Magellanic ploy to enter the Milky Way Galaxy.
Pax Magellanic Civil War and Section 31 Infiltration
By 2387, the Pax Magellanic were engaged in a brutal civil war in the Triangulum Galaxy, the rebel faction led by Xenos, a Pax that opposed conquest of another Galaxy openly declared war on the Pax Magellanic Empire. The two sides engaged in an eternal struggle, neither able to defeat or even damage each other because of their status as energy based beings, only able to kill their humanoid form and then be able to take another.
The war would seemingly last forever with neither side being victorious however the rebels were still able to destroy Pax Magellanic ships and technology so the battle raged on with the Empire loosing ground. Emporer Veknas, the ruling monarch for the last ten thousand years grew desperate, he had become warped with power over time, considering the Pax Magellanic to be "ultimate ascended beings" and the "highest purity of life" and desired to conquer the entire universe, seeing it nothing more then a feeding ground needed to sustain his people. When Xenos, who had previously been a sciencetist presented him with a way to manufacture artifical neural energy, Vaknas instantly rejected it and called him a traitor to the Pax "cause".
Emporer Veknas wanted a swift end to the rebels and although his advanced technology was some of the most impressive in the known universe, he was unable to find a way to end their existence permanently. By this time, the Triangulum Galaxy had become a battleground, all organic life besides the Pax Magellanic had ceased to exist by this point.
However Veknas had been in telepathic contact with a species known as the Pax, who had managed to communicate with them through a long range relay, the "Pax" lived in the Milky Way Galaxy, somewhere that Veknas had not actually considered as populated because of its smaller size. Over the course of decades, the Pax Magellanic manipulated the Milky Way Pax to come to believe in them as "divine beings", forcing their own doctrine on them. Looking for new technologies to destroy the rebels once and for all, the Pax Magellanic accelerated the technological level of the Milky Way Pax to space-faring, giving them access to many of their unique technologies. Finally, they instructed them to build the Nova Drive, which would "ascend them to be one with their Gods".
In actuality, the Drive was a mass collector, that would draw all the neural energy of the entire population to a single point in space where the Pax Magellanic could open a wormhole and enter the Milky Way Galaxy. However, during this encounter, the Pax Magellanic encountered something of great interest, an advanced civilisation had caught their attention as they were accidentally pulled in the Triangulum Galaxy, the USS Republic.
Veknas was intrigued, personally overseeing the attack on the Republic, he engulfed the mind of their Captain, learning about the Federation and United Federation Starfleet in a matter of seconds. After damaging the Republic and tossing it aside, he instructed the "wisp-ships" to enter the Milky Way and begin scouting the area to secure the wormhole.
Veknas sent out his top agents, who travelled alone in small wisp ships to the world of Pinastri and inhabited several bodies, leaving behind no trace until the finally came across something they could manipulate, Section 31, a secret organisation devoted to the protection of the Federation at all costs would prove useful in the long run.
These agents, inhabited the bodies of many of Section 31's leaders, even under the nose of Fleet Admiral Mike Calhoun and the highest members of UFS Command. After several successful infiltrations, the Pax Magellanic learned that Section 31 had already got a "sleeper agent" on the Republic in the form of Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Yato Jinn. Commander Jinn had been "conditioned" to receive subconcious orders from Section 31 and had already been proved successful by rigging the Republic's Main Deflector Dish to overload, causing an instability in the Pegasus Wormhole that destroyed the SS Pegasus Station in an attempt to prevent Quantum Singularity's and Species 8472 from entering the Sector and posing a threat to Starfleet.
The plan had worked perfectly, because even though Pegasus had been lost with almost ten thousand people onboard it, the artificial wormhole had been made extreamly unstable and resulted in affecting subspace throughout the entire sector, flooding the area with anti-neutrinos and preventing the opening of quantum singularities that had been plaguing the region.
The Pax Magellanic began to manipulate Section 31 for their own means, and using them in order to manipulate Yato. They ordered Yato to transfer Luna's program to the USS Colossus who's Captain was under the influence of the Pax Magellanic and then cause a malfunction in the Phase Cannon of the Republic, destroying the vessel so that Commander D'Deridex Orici would get removed from command of the Republic.
The Pax Magellanic had realised, through access of reports including the wormhole aliens of the Bajoran Wormhole, that their own species were susceptible to the same kind of Chroniton Radiation that could kill the wormhole aliens known as the Prophets. They began development of a Chroniton Warhead within UFS which could be placed in the Republic's warp nacelles, disguised from the ship itself. An altered version of Luna, that Yato also uploaded from Pathfinder Research Facility was also placed in the Republic's system instead of the "Real" Luna that was kept in protected backup, trapped in Yato's quarters.
Commander Jinn, was also manipulated by the Pax Magellanic Empire to murder an Asgard Ambassador to cripple relations between UFS and the technologically superior Asgard to prevent their advanced ships from interfering with their plans or providing the Republic with the first test "inter-galactic" Hyperdrive Technology.
Section 31, under manipulation from the Pax Magellanic then assembled a mission to deliver two Chroniton Charges on the Pax Magellanic "Homeworld" in the Triangulum Galaxy, through the Wormhole. However this was essentially the home of the rebel faction that stood in their way from conquering the Milky Way. The Republic was chosen for this mission and UFS Command had no choice but to remove Commander Orici from command, leaving Yato to complete the mission unopposed.
