General
Everyone in Reasearch and Development works together as a team. Once the order for a tool or piece of equipment has been ordered and authorised, dedicated Engineers research into how each order can be made, how it will function and how it will look. Each and every order carries a high standard of quality throughout each phase from conception to finished item while employing state-of-the-art programming and building skills. Everyone in the division takes pride in their work while also being receptive to any feedback so that further improvements can be made in the future. R&D Engineers are privileged to be the people that provide the means that help other people's work and lives easier.
At the start of each week, the Division Head or Vice-Head will hand out assignments to the team. Ideally these assignments should be completed by the end of the week, however more complex or difficult assignments may require more. From here the task is divided into seperate phases. Phase One is to determine how each order should be function practically before building of an un-scripted prototype commences. Once the prototype is satisfactory it is passed to Phase Two and the neccessary scripts and controls are written according to the item's use. The item is then thoroughly tested in Phase Three before being passed to Phase Four for examination by the Head or Vice-Head, along with the personnel requesting it before approval. Finally in Phase Five the item is issued to the Quartermasters of the starship or Supplydeck for issueing to branch personnel. Each item from Phase One to Phase Five is full-permissions so that each assigned R&D Engineer can apply their skills to it.
Although each R&D Engineer has different skills, each also has a different viewpoint. Communication of ideas and ways to solve challenges is highly valued across the division. All R&D personnel are encouraged to share their experience, skills and techniques with each other so that the division as a whole can benefit. We also follow the guidelines set out in the *Code of Conduct*, as well as ensuring that only constructive criticism is applied. We always offer help to each other or a solution to a problem, not destructive comments.
Each build will have a series of requirements in the design brief. This will include maximum number of prims, scripts, animations and sounds but this is generally kept to a minimum requirement due to usage considerations. It will also be scaled appropriately for average avatars or to any specifications laid out in the design brief.
UFS Personnel on the station, starships and facilites everywhere use these tools and equipment everyday! Be proud of them, not just of your contributions, but the team's efforts as well! If you're considering joining the team or would like to know more, please contact Aisha Brandriss.
