Biography
  • Early Life

Calico Prime was a Federation colony on the fringes of Federation space close to the Klingon boarder. The Calico star System best known for is unusual nebula and bright colored gas spread throughout the system that add color to the star system that makes it a unique and beautiful place to visit. Calico prime was home to 200,000 Federation colonists including Dr. Aiden Lombardia, Richard’s father. Dr. Lombardia specialized in computer systems, cybernetics, and holographics. A great deal of resources was poured into his research. Dr. Lombardia had a fascination with the Borg and was given some leeway in his research regarding their technology.

Calico Prime was also home to an extinct but advanced alien race. Nothing was discovered that gave an indication of a written language or a race name, but archaeologist called them “Ancients”. This was due to the fact they are one of the oldest known alien races to have been discovered. In 2370, Dr. Lombardia made an incredible discovery using a combination of alien tech, Borg tech and some of his own research. He managed to create an imager that could map a humanoid brain and save a person’s memories and experience to a specialized computer core called a Deck. Furthermore, this deck could periodically upload the contents of the Deck to a larger computer core. He decided he would conduct a multi-stage project before taking his finding to the Federation.

In 2371 Dr. Lombardia stated stage I. He attempted a very dangerous procedure where he had a Deck installed in himself. It connects at the base of the brain stem where it connects to the spinal column. After the surgery was completed he allowed it to take a record of his memories called a mapping. This mapping was then uploaded to the Backup core.

In 2272 Dr. Lombardia started stage II. In this stage he cloned himself and installed a deck in his clone. After the cloning process was complete, he downloaded his mapping to the deck of the clone. To his surprise the clone was identical to him in every way and had all his memories. He had affectively discovered a way to cheat death. There were several things he still needed to figure out. First, the deck and even the backup core were based on alien tech that he still didn’t fully understand nor was able to replicate. The mapping process was also unknown to him and could not be replicated. The Deck and back up computer core communicated through a method undetectable. As far as he could tell no other computer system could interface with either system. This mean that saved mapping could not be tampers with or altered.

That same year Dr. Lombardia began a relationship with a medical assistant named Lydia. She was studying to be a doctor and had assisted him in the medical procedure of installing the deck. In 2374, Dr. Lombardian ad Lydia were engaged. Lydia finished her schooling an became a medical doctor. She continued to assist Dr. Lombardia in his research which she believed in.

In 2375, they married. Lydia decided to have a deck implanted. Dr. Lombardia gave a full report and account of his research to the Federation but much to his surprise he received a lot of push back regarding the ethical effect of his research. Publicly, he was told to discontinue his experimentation until he could fully explain the alien devices, the mapping process and provide some of the missing elements of his report. Secretly, Dr. Lombardia was approached by Section 31 who would fully fund his experiments. They saw a lot of potential in his work from an intelligence perspective. They also began keeping an eye on him and his progress.

2382, The happy couple gave birth to twins, Richard and Leyla. Aiden and Lydia made the decision to install a deck in the infant children to record the full effects of their life from birth.

Over the next 12 years Dr. Lombaria and Section 31 began project Protean in which five special agents were given decks and back up cores. They were tasked with infiltration duties but instead of surgical alteration they simply inserted themselves into new bodies.

In 2394 (Rich age 12), There was a massive raid by Nausicaans, Gorn and Klingon raiders. Aiden was on the surface at the time of the attack. A distress call was sent and the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-E answered the call. Captain Data Ordered a saucer separation so the stardrive could fight the raiders while the saucer section could start the evacuation.

Multiple units of ground forces landed and started to attack the colonist. They killed some and captured others. Aiden was coordinating the evacuation from the colony to the USS Enterprise saucer. Aiden and Rich were separated from Lydia and Leyla. They were at the evacuation point but Lydia was pinned down in a nearby structure by groups of raiders.

Aiden took a small security detail and went to get them. Just as Rich was being beamed aboard the Enterprise, an orbital bombardment from a raider ship destroyed the building his father just entered trying to rescue his family. The Enterprise saucer section took heavy damage having to lower its shields to beam up survivors. 12 raider ships of various sizes were destroyed but an additional 7 decloaked adding to the 5 that remained. Captain Data knew they were greatly outnumbered. There was no choice but to warp away with the survivors they had. The raiders destroyed Astral Point, all colony structures and razzed a good portion of the planet.

The USS Enterprise escaped with 8,497 survivors out of 23,400 colonists. The Enterprise took the survivors to a nearby starbase and returned with a Task Force. They found an addition 371 people who were able to remain hidden. They said the raiders slaughtered anyone wearing a Starfleet uniform and took a number of ‘slaves’. Over 5000 of the colonist are still MIA which means either they were taken as slaves or disintegrated. The rest are listed as KIA. The bodies of Rich’s father and mother were recovered from the building wreckage but his sister is listed as MIA although they doubt anyone could have survived the collapse of the building. This was marked as one of the most aggressive frontier raids in recent history.

Lt. Tamara Sirtis was one of the few Starfleet officers who were found alive on Calico Prime when the Enterprise returned. She was an operations officer aboard Astral Point who was on leave at the colony during the attack. When brought to the starbase, she recognized Rich. Tamara was unmarried and had no children at the time. She decided to adopt Rich.

Lt. Sirtis took a post aboard the USS Challenger, a galaxy class vessel. She was allowed to bring Rich with her. She began grooming him to become a Starfleet officer. Rich seemed to excel and was fascinated with the mission of the USS Voyager and its daring return from the Delta Quadrant. There were a number of other children that were also being groomed for Starfleet. They were his friends and rivals.

2399 (Age 17): Word spread there as space for 1 cadet from the USS Challenger. Rich took the entrance exam along with his classmates, but his rival beat him by a single point.

2400 (Age 18): Rich applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted.

  • Academy Life

2400 – 2404 (Ages 18-22): After his acceptance to Starfleet Academy was accepted he decided to attend the United Federation Starfleet Academy, based in the Delta Quadrant where Starfleet had established a colony.

o Year 1: Rich decided he wanted to be a pilot and helmsman but also wanted to honor his foster mother and set on a path for the Operations branch. Between semesters Rich entered and won a piloting competition hosted by a non-affiliated world. On the way home, the transport he was on suffered various mechanical failures and was on a collision course for a small moon. Rich did what he could to help but in the end they couldn’t save the ship. He and few others managed to escape on a shuttle. This is where he met Emerald Parkin.

o Year 2: Rich and Emerald continues to see one another. Her father was not pleased at this as he wanted someone of higher social status for his daughter. To spite him, they eloped. Part of the reason for the quick marriage was that Emerald as pregnant with a son. There was nothing else he could do besides accept his daughter decision. Emerald gives birth to a boy, Riktor.

o Year 3: Rich is torn between becoming a Starfleet officer and being a present father to his soon to be born son. The USS Challenger, under the command of Geordi La Forge visits the UFS Academy so he can give a lecture. Rich spends a lot of time speaking with his foster mother who introduces him to Captain La Forge. After a discussion, Rich decides to finish his time at Star Fleet Academy. Emerald gives birth to their second child a little girl they named Ember.

o Year 4: Rich graduates and is posted aboard the USS Sheppard, an Intrepid Class starship.

  • Early Career

2404 (Ages 22): Rich is assigned as an Operations officer aboard the USS Sheppard.

2405 (23): Rich is promoted to Lt. Jg and assigned as Vice Chief of Operations. Emmy gives birth to their third and final child, a little girl they named Emma.

2406 (24): Rich is promoted to LT.

2408 (26): Rich is promoted to Lt. Cmdr.

  • Middle Career and Starfleet Departure

2409-2411 (27-29): Rich transferred to the USS Eclipse (intrepid class) to fight in the Federation-Klingon War, ongoing in the Alpha & Beta quadrants.

2411: The strain of being away from his family and continuous warfare takes its toll. Rich makes a decision to leaves Starfleet to spend time with his family.

2411-2413 (29-31): Rich and his family move to an independent desert planet called Araxes. Here is a highly profitable commodity called “Spice” which mined and traded.

o Rich started to look for a job to support his family. Due to his background and training, he assists in assembling a local planetary Home guard to protect the world of Araxes. After its completion the planetary governor offers him a job running the Home Guard. Rich accepts and named Commodore.

o Rich faced many problems that were not common to Starfleet. Specifically, manpower and resources. Many of those serving in the Home Guard were part time. Soon race known as the Pryixians came to Araxes and started causing trouble. The Pryixians had a plan and were preparing to take the planet.

o Battle of Araxes – Pyrixians setup a communication relay on surface. Its purpose is to assist in the coordination of a ground assault when the main fleet arrives. The Home Guard along with several desert-born locals forms a Task Force. They jointly assault the comm relay and destroy it.

o Battle of Vanguard Station – In retaliation for their defeat, the Pyrixians assault the Home Guard HQ known as Vanguard station. They penetrate the defenses and board the station. It’s a gruesome affair which results in many deaths on both sides. Unable to secure the station, the Pyrixans are forced to withdraw.

o When a new leader was elected, the local government hired additional mercenary forces. Due to the growing threat of the Pyrians, trying to keep the mercenaries in line and an abduction attempt on his son, Rich resigned his commission and moves his family to a safer world.

  • Return to Starfleet

2413-2415 (31-33): Emerald knew this wasn’t the life he was meant for. Their children were older and they settled on a much safer world. It was time for Rich to return to the life he was meant for, a life in Starfleet.

Surprisingly, Emerald decided to join Starfleet. After his acceptance, he is issued his former rank. Rich served aboard the USS Challenger before transferring back to the Delta Quadrant to be with his wife.

2415-2416 (33-34): Rich is assigned as helmsman of the USS Maxwell (Nova Class) in the Delta Quadrant.

2416(1st half): Rich takes a position as XO of the SS Peedy Thor and shortly after, promoted to Commander.

2416 (2nd half): An unexpected opportunity presents itself a command position opens up. Rich accepts and is assigned command of the USS Sheppard (Intrepid Class). Rich is promoted to Captain later that year.

2417(age 35): Present year
