Biography

There is a long story behind why he is sometimes known as "Skot Brit". However, it is best summed up by stating that when the Vulcan registrar asked for "name and residence" Gordon, his father, quipped "This is Scotty-Brit, resident of Vulcan and Earth!" Naturally, the Vulcan took this literally and wrote "Scottybrit Resident- Vulcan/Earth". Once his father realized what had happened, he tried to correct the mistake, but was unsuccessful.The family waited a week or so before moving to their intended residence, Earth- specifically Arizona, USA as the desert area emulated Vulcan the environment on Vulcan (not to mention that T'Pari was not too keen on the idea of going from sunny, dry Vulcan to the climate of Great Brittan). However, they area that they settled in, a town in the former Yuma proving grounds, near the ruuins of interstate 95, was not terribly populous. As a result, the humans there had limited exposure to extra-terrestrial people. This was especially true of the children, who often bullied Skot because of his conspicuous pointy ears. Being mostly human, their teasing would make him quite sad, though he rarely retalliated. He was raised with the idea that one should always seek peace. However, he never reported the bullying to anyone. In his youthful, flawed logic, he deemed it inevitable, and did not see how telling others would have helped.Once he reached 13 or so, his classmates teasing changed. As they learned of alien races more, the teasing of the ears lessened considerably. However, with this new understanding came a down side. The knowledge that Vulcans possess superior strength and reflexes meant that boys who wanted to prove how "macho" they were would pick fights with him. Unfortunately,

Skot did not seem to have this particular trait, but that didn't stop the others from taking victory as evidence of their superiority. However, there is one occassion where this all changed. Since childhood, Skot never seemed to exhibit signs of psionic capability, despite the fact that his mother was quite gifted and that his maternal grandfather was even a respected former kohlinar master. Then, when Skot was 15, during another unwanted altercation, Skot tried to push the other boy away by pushing on his face. This caused the boy's agression to pass into Skot. He suddenly raged, and it took four people to pry Skot off of him. It is thought that perhaps adrenaline had caused accellerated synaptic activity, causing previously dormant parts of the brain to activate. The boy was ultimately unharmed, as it wasn't a true mind meld, but it became apparent that something had to be done. Although found innocent of true wrong doing, Skot was ordered to go to Vulcan and live with his grandparents until better able to control it. He ultimately spent 3 years on Vulcan, where his grandfather modified the typical program to better fit someone closer to the human makeup. All emotion couldn't be eliminated, as Sibik reasoned that a human without emotion is equivalent to a Vulcan without logic- dangerous. So it became less about purging emotion as much as compartmentalizing, mainly through meditation. It proved successful, as when Skot gets overwhelmed by a negative emotion, he seems to take a detatched and more Vulcan like demeanor, but freely expresses positive emotions without difficulty. This could be described as internal thought allocation, moving certain thoughts through neural pathways to different areas of the brain. This is the same mechanism as the trance-like state often used to heal (although, sometimes he still stressses over "the little things). His time on Vulcan really inspired him. Sibik and Donna (Skot's grandparents) worked together researching the energy disturbances in the Forge. They would often let him practice his meditations in the facility, and they regularly set him chores to do around the station. This really fed an interest in science and research. Also, because the use of electronic or energy devices would interfere with the data, there was a rule that use of computers apart from research was to be kept to a minimum. To this day, Skot isn't terribly good with computers, and is often seen using pen and paper to make personal notes. Over all, Scottybrit Resident is an optimistic and objective person who is estudious and diligent. He enjoys swimming,target shooting, and reading (and of course, the sciences). He still tends to become shy in large groups whom he's unfamiliar with, but once he starts to know someone, it can become hard to shut him up.
