History

It was early November 2383, and the ageing Oberth-class USS Yellowstone NCC-693 was coming to the end of a fairly routine six-week mission studying a collapsing protostar at the trailing edge of the Pinastri Sector. The ships long-range sensors had detected a rare mineral called Exatanium known only to exist in the Delta Quadrant. The source of the sensors results were two moons orbiting an M-class planet in what appeared to be an uninhabited system in a sector on the coreward border of former Borg space.

Further scans also detected traces of Dilithium in the star system. Captain Patrick Henson of the Yellowstone immediately fed the results of the find back to the Pathfinder Research Facility on Pinastri Prime.

UFS Command saw claiming this system as of great strategic value as it would not only provide for much needed ongoing resources for the whole UFS project, but would also provide UFS with a great route to market and means of trade. Admiral Calhoun personally authorised further scientific study, and a full planetary survey mission was started to make a full assessment of the system.

Within a matter of months a full colonisation plan had been drawn up in order to 'claim' the star system for UFS. Everything was set, the Alpha site had been identified and Fleet Captain Darren Reiner was selected to lead the mission. Early in 2384 on stardate 090210, the USS Aviator NX-75101 and a number of transports and colony ships departed SS Tranquility for Trailwan Sphere, the second planet in the newly christened Excalibur Star System.

Situation

The Excalibur system is approximately 13 light years trailing from the Pinastri system and travel time between Pinastri Prime and Trailwan Sphere is approximately three weeks at a cruising speed of Warp 5. The system contains 5 planets revolving around the G3V Yellow Star Excalibur. Excalibur II is the M-class Trailwan Sphere and site of the UFS colony.

Environmental

It is composed of two main continents covering 42 percent of the planet’s surface. These are mainly concentrated in the northern hemisphere and equatorial regions, with multiple island rings covering the southern hemisphere. The planet is orbited by two moons, one which is extremely rich in Dilithium, and the other, a rare Delta Quadrant mineral called Exatanium.
