Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (SNW) has won two awards in November: The Ruderman Seal of Approval for Authentic Representation, and the Saturn Award for Best Streaming Science Fiction Series.
From the Ruderman website: “The Ruderman Seal of Approval for Authentic Representation is awarded to television or feature film projects featuring actors with disabilities in substantial speaking roles, and has been conceived as the premier recognition for those in the entertainment creative community who show the commitment toward full inclusiveness in popular culture.” SNW won the award because of the casting of legally blind actor Bruce Horak as Aenar Chief Engineer Lieutenant Hemmer. Mr. Horak was Star Trek’s first legally blind main cast actor.
SNW’s first season won the Saturn Award for Best Streaming Science Fiction Series at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films 50th anniversary award ceremony on October 25. SNW bested The Expanse, For All Mankind, Lost in Space, The Mandalorian, The Orville: New Horizons, and Star Trek: Discovery in their win.
Those of us who recognize that SNW is a high quality series can take pride in being fans of award-winning entertainment. Congratulations to all those who work so hard to bring this series to us!
